Am Freitag, dem 22. September füllte sich die Turnhalle des Ferdinand-Sauerbruch-Gymnasiums. Ein Konzert stand bevor. Nichts Ungewöhnliches, denn seit Jahren sind die Weihnachts- und Galeriekonzerte ein fester Bestandteil im Schuljahr. Diesmal sollte allerdings ein besonderes Konzert stattfinden – ein Benefizkonzert für die Stadtkirche in Großröhrsdorf. Der Brandanschlag Anfang August füllte die Medien.
Seitdem gab es unendliche Kollekten und Aktionen um die Gemeinde und ganz Großröhrsdorf zu unterstützen. Und auch am Freitag kamen viele zusammen um zu helfen. Schüler verkauften Getränke vor der Halle, während sich in der Halle so viele Mitwirkende wie noch nie auf ihren Auftritt vorbereiteten: Bläser, die Harmony Dreams, der Klassikchor Subitoforte, die Chöre der Kantoreien von Großröhrsdorf und Kleinröhrsdorf, sowie der Gospelchor und ein extra für den Anlass „gegründeter“ Chor der Ehemaligen. Durch den Abend führten Franz Bürger und Nicole Krause das Publikum in der vollen Turnhalle. Die Musikauswahl war so vielfältig wie die Mitwirkenden und begeisterte das Publikum, u.a. „Lolipop“, „Schau auf die Welt“, „I will follow him“ und „Cum Decore“. Zwischendurch wandte sich Pastor Schwarzenberg an das Publikum und drückte sein Entsetzen über die Tat, aber auch seinen Dank und seine Hoffnung für die Zukunft der Kirchgemeinde aus. Auch Pastor Littig wandte sich an die Anwesenden und zeichnete zusammen mit Frau Schirmer die Gewinnerinnen des Kunstobjektes „Farbe ins Leben“ aus. In der Pause war er es auch, der einen Flyer verteilte, der einen Tag vor der Brandkatastrophe fertiggestellt wurde. Dieser Flyer zeigt noch einmal, was in dieser Brandnacht zerstört wurde. Vor dem Konzert, in der Pause und auch im Anschluss an das Konzert hatten die Besucher die Gelegenheit für die Kirche und die Gemeindearbeit zu spenden. Schüler hatten dafür kreative und sehr schön gestaltete Spendenboxen gestaltet.
Im letzten Teil des Konzertes konnte und durfte dann auch das Publikum mitsingen, z.B. bei „What a wonderful world“. Der Abend ging viel zu schnell zu Ende – zumindest aus der Sicht des Publikums. Als Ergebnis steht ein vertrauter und doch ganz anderer Konzertabend, der eine großzügige Spende hervorbrachte. Ein großer Dank an alle Spender*innen. Helfer*innen und Mitwirkende.
